THE TASKS OF ANGELS
"And now ‘twas like all instruments,
Now like a lonely flute;
And now it is an angel’s song,
That makes the heavens be mute…
This seraph-band, each waved his hand:
It was a heavenly sight!
They stood as signals to the land,
Each one a lovely light…."

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Angels in the Jewish Faith

By Tami Lowenthal

The discussion of the creation of angels involves both clear-cut and puzzling explanations. For instance, it is not known whether angels are entirely non-physical (pure energy), or metaphysical, as a spirit manifest with wings (some with more than two). One of the simpler truths involving angels, however, is that they are helpful. As each angel was present in the Beginning, there is a finite number of them, each one of whom performs a specific duty and service to God.

Some angels are more wise, swift, active and/or stronger than others. Some remain with God, some as guards of God’s domain, and some as guardians of individual life on earth. Those special angels who attend to one person, adapts and changes itself to the fate and temperament of each new soul that enters Life.

Whether it be matchmaking, bestowing knowledge, administering forgetfulness, accompanying birth and affording readjustment, from cherub to seraphim, a specific angelic task always includes a specific location and goal.

Conception

The first forty days after conception is a special time, as the soul does not enter the embryo at that time. Abortion, therefore, is possible during the first forty days. Immediately following that special period of time, the soul enters the fetus. At the time the soul is ensconced, an angel arrives to guard, direct and endow the fetus with knowledge. The angel remains with the fetus until the baby takes its first breath of air, at which time the baby completes its individual spirit.

Knowledge

The mark above every baby’s lip is the result of the interference of its angel at birth. During its growth, the angel transfers knowledge from the soul to the specific baby in its care. At the moment just before birth, the angel wipes all inborn knowledge from conscious memory. The absorption of knowledge begins with the first meeting between angel, soul and the specific fetus. Though it is a lifelong process, the knowledge that is veiled can be retrieved.

Matchmaking

The fate of a person’s love life can be determined by his or her angel. The specific soul, of which there are also a limited number originating at the Beginning, is matched with another specific soul. Soul-mates, however, are not static, making it possible for one soul to progress, outgrow or overcome limitations at a pace out of synchronization with its mate. Therefore, in order to remedy an imbalance between soul-mates, divorce is permitted. Blame is placed neither on the angel nor the developing soul, whose progress or lack of progress has not been foreseen.

Finally, it is possible for persons to have more than one angel looking over them, or none. That depends on the individual spirit. Just as every person is connected with both universal and momentary time, every person has a universal and an individual aspect, manifested in their spirit. Each person’s spirit can be good, or bad, as even the angels cannot control the outcome of an individual life.
